A moderate walk with somewhat of a steep start from a car park at the side of SH47 only a few kilometres out of Turangi. The lower part is steep up through thick broadleaf forest with very active birdlife – including Tui. Further up one crosses the line of the Tokaanu Tunnel then emerges from forest into rather high bush – which is a struggle for the vertically challenged. From the summit bush-bash towards Lake Rotopounamu till a gully, incipient track is found down to rejoin the Tokaanu Tunnel track. A short walk that takes 5 hours due to windfalls, thick vegetation and tough track in parts.
