LOCKING Using remote, press lock button twice.
TYRES Visually check all tyres before each trip. Recommend tyre pressures: 60 PSI rear . 50 PSI front
STARTING Depress clutch. Turn key to bring up dash symbols. Horizontal curly symbol for the glow plugs will be evident for about 3 seconds. Immediately it goes out, start the engine and allow to idle for 30 seconds before driving, to get oil circulating to the turbo bearings.
STOPPING Idle engine for 20 sec to allow turbo to slow down, thereby protecting it’s bearings.
STALLING It may be necessary to the turn key off before restarting to allow the computer to reset itself
GEARS 6 speed manual transmission. When driving, keep the revs up. Much power is lost below 1800 RPM when the turbo kicks in. To engage reverse gear, pull up the collar on the gear stick.
BONNET Insert key into bonnet release panel located top centre of front grill. Turn the key anticlockwise once, twice clockwise, hold and then lift bonnet.
FUEL DIESEL only. Top up if fuel gauge is ½ full or less after a trip. Access to the fuel cap by opening the passenger door . Then opening the panel on the door pillar. Door can be closed with that panel open but door must be opened again to close the fuel cap panel. Use BP fuel card to purchase fuel. PIN number located on the van key’s tag. Receipt required for our club treasurer, and is stored in the glove box for periodic collection.
PUNCTURE Detailed instructions written up on a laminated sheet, located in the glove box. Wheel change is not an easy process on this particular vehicle.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER Attached to the base of the seat immediately behind the driver, in full view with the side door open. There is another located in the cargo area.
JUMP STARTING Battery located under driver’s seat. See Page 233 in Owner’s manual. If at all possible avoid jump starting, as if done incorrectly the computer may be damaged.
STEERING WHEEL SECURITY LOCK Position across the steering wheel in such a way as to avoid the slightly raised centre pad horn. Align nick on key with mark on the lock, turn key and hold to close and remove bar. Key not required to fit bar and open across steering wheel.
TRACTION CONTROL Should the vehicle detect loss of traction of the driving wheels, it immediately reduces engine power and applies the brakes to the wheels in order to increase traction. This would be very problematical, for example, going up the Tukino track to the Installation, and even the Urchin on occasion.
Traction control can be turned off using round disc on left spoke of the steering wheel. Bring up traction control setting on the small screen visible between the rev counter and odometer. Traction control indicator will illuminate just below and left of the 200 kph mark, which is the indication it is off. Note: Engine shutdown and restart will automatically reset the traction control function. Reference P 69,132 in owner’s manual.
