This tramp is moderate to fit depending on the variation that is done. This tramp is moderate to fit depending on the variation that is done. This day-tramp comprises the north end of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing where one walks in to the Ketetahi Hut from close to SH46 – this can be a bit tiring as there are, shall we say, a few “steps” on the otherwise very high grade track with long new section just below the hut. Once at the Ketetahi Shelter one can then admire the views and come down again or continue up for another hour or so to the Blue Lake or even as far as the Emerald Lakes and junction to the Oturere Track. Lots of photos can be taken.
