Puketawa track information is readily available on the DOC link. This new tramp starts at 386 Pakihi Road in the Raeitihi/Ohakune district. There are two circular tracks, one of about 2 hours and a shorter one of 1 hour through lovely rainforest, with the reward of excellent views at the top. In order to make the most of time in the area, as it's a two hour drive from Taupo, visits to three small lakes can be included to round out the day. These are two Rotokura Lakes off the Ohakune to Waiouru road and Ohakune Lake off Lakes Road. Both areas have beautiful stands of mature forest with circular walks around the lakes.
