Waikato Pureora via Red Shed (to Link Rd and reverse)

The Timber Trail starts from near the DOC Centre in the Pureora Forest Park and heads south eastwards to meet up with the Toitoi Track ascending Mt Pureora. This tramp linked the Timber Trail with the Toitoi Track to get up Pureora then descend via the Link Track to Link Road. The walk can be done in either direction but from Link Road it starts with a huge staircase ascent – GPS distance indicates 16km whilst map gives 15km with over 600m ascent.

An alternative tramp – park at Link Road Car Park. Climb to Mt Pureora, 3kms and 1.5hrs one way. This track has suffered from recent heavy rains, with trees down and track scoured by rain. Slippery and wet. On return, take the Link Track to CNI which is very well marked. This track is gnarly with lots of roots, trees down and steep ups and downs. 2.5kms one way and 1h45min.
