A moderate plus walk of over 15km between Ketetahi and Mangatepopo, which can be done in either direction, and routed mainly off-track to the west of the Alpine Crossing passing behind North Crater and Mt Tongariro and incorporates Hardman's Ridge.
A moderate plus walk of over 15km between Ketetahi and Mangatepopo, which can be done in either direction, and routed mainly off-track to the west of the Alpine Crossing passing behind North Crater and Mt Tongariro and incorporates Hardman’s Ridge. As this tramp passes through Ketetahi Springs which is private land permission is required and the normal respect has to be shown when passing through private areas. This walk is based on following the 1500m level and it is suggested that the original route was perhaps nearer 1200m. It is quicker to walk S to N Mangatepopo to Ketetahi.
