A fairly long (16km), circular walk in the moderate category lasting five to six hours including breaks. Starts and ends at the Chateau in Whakapapa and can be done in either direction, uses the track to Tama Lakes and follows the Wairere Stream. There is an overall altitude gain and loss of about 700 metres. Can be lengthened by taking in the Taranaki Falls and or Lower Tama Lake. Can also be done as an out & back.
