Driving time is just over one hour to reach the start. This is a moderate tramp with a lot of ascending and descending through native forest on the south side of Lake Tarawera between Tarawera Landing on Punaromia Beach and Hot-water Beach in Te Rata Bay. Total ascent is 550 metres and the hard work is nearer the South end. Can be done in either direction but taking the water taxi to start prevents possible long, cold hanging about at or racing to the end to get the water taxi back.

Unfortunately the water taxi is currently out of action. A new boat is being manufactured by another company and hopes to be in action in October. So for this trip we will walk from the carpark as far as we feel like and return. Those who are keen can go as far as the hot pool by the Wairau stream, about 20km return.. There will be an added charge due to current fuel prices so the van fee will be $20.
We don't have any past trips at the moment.
